MONART DRAWING CLASSES AT CDS

Students learn the basics of drawing while experimenting with new media including markers, colored pencils, chalk and oil pastels, watercolor and much more.  This guided step-by-step method improves visual perception skills by breaking down the subject matter for children to see and follow along. FIRST SESSION: ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS                                     

Go back in time for an in-depth look at different civilizations to learn about the culture, art, people and traditions of ancient civilizations. Subjects include Vikings, Greek Gods and Goddesses, The Keeper of the Plains, Aboriginal animal art and more!  Participants will enjoy using fun media such as watercolor, oil and chalk pastel, liquid graphite sticks, colored pencil and marker.  We might get a little messy each week in this hands-on art experience!

Dates: Sept. 12, 19, 26; Oct. 3, 17, 24. 

Tuition is $70 for the six weeks.

SECOND SESSION: ARCTIC ANIMALS

Students will learn about the different polar regions and the animals that call these frigid places home.  Subject matter includes a puffin, Emperor penguin, polar bear, snowshoe hare, walrus, narwhal and an Arctic fox with Northern lights.  We will use watercolor to learn how to create shadows in snow, wax resist and paint layering for fur texture, chalk and oil pastel for skies and liquid graphite sticks for shading.

Dates: Nov. 7, 14, 28; Dec. 5, 12; Jan. 9, 23.  

Tuition is $80 for the seven weeks

THIRD SESSION: CUTEST ANIMALS ON EARTH

We have found the most adorable, fluffy, smiley and sweet animals on the planet and squeezed them into a seven-week art session.  Be prepared for CUTENESS OVERLOAD!  Projects include an Axolotl, fennec fox, African helmeted turtle, fairy penguin, pygmy hippo, saiga and more!  Students will enjoy watercolor pencils, collage and new texture rubbing tools.

Dates: Jan. 30; Feb. 6, 20, 27; Mar. 6, 20, 27. 

Tuition is $80 for the seven weeks. 

FOURTH SESSION: HARRY POTTER

If you like the world of magic join us to draw, paint and craft artwork inspired by characters from Harry Potter!  Projects include a character assemblage craft, painting Dumbledore, Fawkes the phoenix, a stag patronus and “The Chosen One,” Harry Potter.

Dates: Apr. 3, 17, 24; May 1, 8, 15. 

Tuition is $70 for the six weeks.
