Getting Ready Art Camp Ages: 4 ½ – 7, Meets: 1:00-3:00

Each three-day camp will focus on a different theme. In addition to a guided drawing lesson, students will be exposed to a variety of related literature, exciting new media, making fun crafts, sewing, collage and clay projects. Four-year-olds must have prior pre-school experience, be able to follow multi-step directions and be able to write their name. 

Tuition is $100 for three afternoons and includes all supplies and materials. Dress for a mess!

  • Bluey, June 3-5  Draw, paint and craft your favorite character such as Bluey, Bingo and Chatterbox. Students will also enjoy our Bluey themed photo booth and decorating felt puppy masks! This will be a fun, hands on learning camp for our youngest artists
  • Studio Ghibli, June 10-12  Draw and paint your favorite movie characters. Unique crafts include an origami Totoro, yarn soot sprites, a polymer clay ring with your choice of character, painted rocks and a terrarium
  • Mixed Media, June 10-12  If your kiddo likes to paint, cut, glue and use lots of different medias to create this is the camp for them! Delve into the world of Gelli Plates, watercolor, stamps and so much more! Students will have 2-3 finished pieces of art per day
  • Barbie, June 17-19  Not just for girls–even those with Kenergy will enjoy themselves! Draw and watercolor weird Barbie, make accessories each day for your own Barbies or stuffies at home, tie-dye a Barbie color themed t-shirt and flour sack towel, learn how to fold an origami heart make pink soap and pink Oreos
  • Dinos, June 17-19  In this part art, part science camp your young paleontologists will love drawing and crafting dinos, making skeleton impressions, playing games and rotating between educational dino stations.
  • Meow Wolf, June 24-26  Immerse yourself in our mini-Meow Wolf at The Art Park! This maker camp will feature crafts such as the Glass Castle, polymer clay mushrooms in a terrarium, make a paper mache rainbow cat, felt flowers and have fun inventing your own weird creatures with crazy eyeballs.
  • Ancient Egypt, June 24-26  Do you love ancient times, mummies and all things Egypt? We do too! Have fun drawing,  painting and sculpting all while learning about Bast, King Tut, Queen Nefertiti, the pyramids and Sphinx, mummies, design a scarab broach and draw on REAL papyrus from Egypt and paint with metallic paints!
  • Big Cats, July 1-3  Use acrylics to paint a lion on canvas, craft a life size tiger face out of cardboard, make  panther quilling craft, draw a jaguar in the jungle with oil paste land make a polymer clay figurine.
  • Jungle Animals, July 8-10  Make a blue morpho butterfly, sloth, jaguar, pink river dolphin, toucan and parrot using fun media such as wax resist and watercolor, design marker, colored pencil, clay, collage and oil pastels. D’zz Spot Reptarium and Educational Center will join us with several reptiles to interact with.
  • Enchanted Forest, July 15-17  Paint a shimmering castle in an enchanted forest on canvas, make a cute gnome craft, fairy character, create a cardboard castle to take home and make a terrarium with clay mushrooms.
  • Christmas in July, July 22-24  Draw a reindeer and paint with watercolor, make a clay snowman, create a miniature winter wonderworld, decoupage a lantern, make several unique ornaments and learn how to use a wood burning tool.
  • State Parks, July 29-31  Explore a new State Park each day! Draw or paint a manatee from the Everglades, a starfish and tide pool from the Olympic National Park, and animals galore from Denali. Students will also enjoy creating a paper mache woodland animal sculpture and making smores. Plus, visit with critters from the GPNC!
  • Clay Camp, Aug. 5-7  Participants will be introduced to four different types of clay and create unique items such as a snake pinch pot, a textured fish plaque, marbleized beads and a polymer clay pen for back to school.
  • Woodworking Toy Edition, Aug. 12-14  Students will walk away with at least three games to play with the family including: tic tac toe, balancing moon game and a table top corn hole game. Students will be prepped with safety measures and supervised closely while saws, drill press and tools are in use. We have a few more toys from generations past to introduce time permitting and we hope to introduce a wire bending jig.

Basic Drawing Art Camp Ages: 8-12, Meets: 1:00-3:00

Drawings are guided; perfect for the beginner elementary age student to learn skills or for the more advanced elementary aged student to improve upon existing skills. Camps are also fun for adults to take with their youth. Students will experience fun mixed media projects, complete several finished pieces and make neat advanced craft projects.

Tuition is $100 for each camp and includes all supplies and materials. Dress for a mess!

  • It’s Greek to Me! June 3-5  There’s a little bit of everything in this camp: taste baklava with homemade vanilla ice cream, use oil pastels to draw the beautiful white buildings and Aegean Sea from Santorini, draw an ancient Greek statue with liquid graphite sticks, make an owl sculpture out of air-dry clay and draw flowers with India ink and a special tissue paper technique.

  • Embroidery, July 8-10  No prior experience required! Students will create art pieces on an embroidery hoop such as a spooky spider web, a rainbow with a cute storm cloud or a colorful butterfly. We will also make felt stuffies or a black cat time permitting.
  • Chinese Watercolor, July 15-17  Enjoy learning about a new culture while we paint the afternoon away! Master the use of a bamboo brush to paint a Chinese butterfly and plum blossom branch in a Ming Dynasty vase. Learn to draw a Chinese dragon, print a terracotta clay warrior and make an origami animal.

Science Club Camps are hands on learning for curious kids!  All lessons and experiments are created in house by our team of teachers.

  • Winging It, June 3-5   All things aircraft! Learn about the history of the airplane, hot air balloon and helicopter. Learn a variety of ways to fold paper planes, create your own model airplane from recyclables, participate in a plane flying competition from our treehouse, build your own working helicopter, boomerang and draw a hot air balloon to collage on a map. We will have a special visit from a guest that works with Spirit!
  • Eco Explorer, June 10-12  Campers will explore habitats, animals, plants, life cycles, and nature using all our senses to guide us. We will look at the natural world through hands on activities, games and make nature-inspired arts and crafts. Campers will release ladybugs and caterpillars into The Art Park gardens and make suet bird feeders to take home.
  • Lego Camp, June 17-19  Campers will complete a variety of Lego challenges such as tallest tower, the 10 brick drop, save minifigures from a canyon and rotate to different stations to make mini builds. This camp will awake the imagination and creativity of campers as they build and complete these Lego crowd pleasers. Fun crafts too.
  • Camp NASA, June 24-26  Calling all future NASA Scientists: Play fun games, do hands-on activities, watch videos, complete crafts and experiments to learn about NASA’s work on Earth and beyond! We will build a space rover, satellite and paint the moon with metallic paints!
  • Chemistry Concoctions, July 1-3  Let’s get Chemical by checking out a variety of chemical reactions. Campers will follow the scientific method to hypothesize and carry out experiments, this camp is all about the REACTION!
  • Weather Watchers, July 8-10  Do you have an interest in the weather? Us too! Learn about weather patterns and face nature’s fury: lightning, tornadoes, blizzards, and more. We also have a surprise special guest coming to visit with our budding meteorologists!
  • As Seen on YouTube–Real or Fake? July 15-17  Campers will watch a new science YouTube video each day and carry out a popular experiment to discover if they are real or fake! You tube videos are made to wow but are they always true or just clever editing? Join us to fund out!
  • Lego WeDo Robotics, July 22-24  Does your camper love to build with Lego? What about coding? This camp will merge the two so campers can build with Lego and use iPads to code their creations. They will build a glowing snail, Milo the science rover and code Milo to do a variety of things. We will also collaborate with others to mesh kits and come up with new building ideas! We will experiment with a Sphero time permitting. A guest from K-State research and extension office will visit to share their ‘Steve’ robots with us!
  • STEMsational, July 29-31  Campers will experience a variety of STEM activities and learn how the subjects are intertwined-Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Learn about the Fibonacci sequence, compete in design and building challenges, construct robots, sample coding and engage in fun science experiments.
  • Lego, Our Amazing Earth, Aug. 5-7  Master Builders unite to recreate different habitats and natural wonders from around the globe! Fun challenges will encourage your young makers to work together to learn about and create some of the most amazing places on Earth. Build projects include: jungles of South America, under water habitats, caves, volcanos, build the layers of our Earth and see what happens in an earthquake. Your young scientist will love learning about our natural world and places around the globe in this hands-on Lego camp.
  • Electronics Lab, Aug. 12-14  Campers will explore snap circuits and squishy circuits. They will design and make their very own paper circuit and see if a potato and other foods can carry electricity. Register for this camp and don’t be a buzz kill!

Young Chefs Cooking Camps,

Ages: 4-7 and 8-12, Meets: 1:00-3:00

Each day students will participate in baking/cooking projects, eat a snack and (hopefully!) take treats home to share! Younger students will take turns adding ingredients for a group project while older children will work in pairs following along with instructors guided demonstration.  Children will participate in food related games and crafts time permitting. 

Tuition for the three afternoons is $100 and includes all supplies.  Dress for a mess!

  • Carb Crazy, Ages 8-12, June 3-5  Day one, make delicious mini fruit filled pies with lattice and designs such as a cloverleaf, crescent and fan rolls. Day two, get creative with a loaded baked potato bar. Day three will be breakfast themed with biscuits and gravy and pull apart cinnamon rolls.
  • Disney Princess, June 10-12, Ages: 4-7  Just like a Disney Princess our campers will be inspired to try new things such as Castle Corn Chowder, Ham and Cheese Biscuit Braids, Flower Sandwiches, Triple Fruit Salad, Sweet Sea-Foam Smoothie, and Te Fiti Tropical Punch. Feel free to dress as your favorite princess each day!
  • Cooking Around the World, Ages 4-12, June 17-19  Students will enjoy making apple pancakes from Germany, cheesy quesadillas and fresh salsa from Mexico, Australian hobo bread, oaty bars from New Zealand and several other yummy drinks, breads and desserts!
  • Cupcake Mania, Ages 8-12, June 24-26  This camp is sure to satisfy a sweet tooth! Recipes include dark chocolate bacon cupcakes, beehive cupcakes, different types of stacked muffins and frosty fruit bites. Special guest: professional cupcake designer is coming to give us tips for decorating!
  • Christmas in July, Ages8-12, July 1-3  If your child enjoys holiday baking this is the camp for them! Recipes include mint cookies and cream bark, the ultimate blondie bars, a tabletop tree, defrost the snowman, thumbprint cookies and spritz cookies. We hope to make fun ornament crafts time permitting.
  • Barbie Party Inspired Foods, Ages 4-12, July 8-10  Not just for girls–even those with Kenergy will have a blast! Barbie pink is the inspiration for all these tasty foods! Recipes include: bubblegum fudge, pink deviled eggs, pink popcorn, strawberry cheesecake bites, pink pinwheels, pink dips and cut veggie roses for decoration.
  • Edible Snack Sculptures, Ages 4-12, July 15-17  Campers will be encouraged to PLEASE play with your food! Recipes include a yummy dough animal, shapely pancakes, patterned strawberries and LOTS of funny fruit and vegetable faces, skeletons and creatures.
  • Picnic Foods, Ages 4-7, July 22-24  Join us to make roll ups, giraffe floats, cheesy ranch Chex mix, granny smith slaw, multi grain fruit bars, fruit and yogurt parfait and use cookie cutters to make fun sandwich shapes.
  • Baking and Drawing, Ages 4-7, July 29-31  Young Chef’s will enjoy making a bread treat each day and creating a correlating piece of art. Viking bread, classic white bread, dog bones and turtle bread are on the schedule as well as using fun media.
  • Chill With Us, Ages 8-12, Aug. 5-7  It’s HOT outside–come cool off with us in the kitchen making frozen treats such as a roll-up roulade, a homemade ice cream bar, blueberry peach parfaits, ice cream tacos, key lime pie and rainbow popsicles.
  • Star Wars Cooking Camp, Ages 4-12, Aug.12-14  Learn fun recipes you will, many fun things you will do. Recipes include Greedo’s burritos, Darth Vader dark chocolate sundaes, Skywalker smoothies, Star Wars pretzels, Yoda soda and tongue numbing Jar Jar Binks nachos. May the force be with you as Miss Bev guides you through a galaxy worth of tasty foods.

Weekly Classes at the Monart School of Art

When we say “we can teach anyone how to draw,” we really mean it! Our patented, step-by-step method is perfect for the pre-school through elementary aged artist. Teens and adult artists alike will enjoy and benefit from the drawing challenges and exercises assigned in the Intermediate level classes. Our classrooms are safe, comfortable environments where students feel free to create. We believe there is no right or wrong, better or best, or “mistakes” in art. Summer Enrollment Procedure: We are holding class for 10 weeks: June 6-Aug. 15.  Pre-pay for 9 classes and choose which dates you can attend. If you attend all 10 classes, tuition for the last class will need to be arranged. Students are welcome to start mid-semester upon availability. Prices are as follows for 9 weeks and all supplies:

First Steps, Ages: 2½-5

Improves fine motor skills in our youngest artists in a relaxed pre-school setting. This is the perfect stepping stone for any child who has not attended school yet.

This class focuses on realistic drawing skills and helps to improve spatial awareness, task completion, fine motor skills and following directions.

Basic Drawing, Ages: 7-12

Students will hone realistic drawing skills and learn how to create more realistic fur, feather and scale patterns for animals as well as proportion and detail.

Teen and Adult Intermediate Level Drawing and Painting

Students of all experience levels welcome. Start the semester by practicing drawing exercises and then graduate to more complex lessons all while having the support and direction of our master teacher, Charles Baughman. Many of the lessons are adapted from college courses.

Sculpture/Clay Class, Ages: 5-12

Students will create a variety of projects including “junk art,” paper mâché, clay hand building, assemblage, woodworking, jewelry making and much more!
