All Day Skill Building Activities!

Come have a fun, enriching experience when school is out!  Children will get creative making art projects, have center time, play outside weather permitting, do gym class with Coach Dave from the Wichita Angels and music theatre with Miss Marcee from Music Together.  A variety of art materials will be used each day, dress in clothes that can get dirty.  Please bring a sack lunch and snacks.

When: 9:00-4:00

May 19th-  Artist Paul Signac:  this French neo-impressionist landscape painter helped develop the pointillist style.  Have fun being a “plein-air” (open air) painter in the gardens at The Art Park, experimenting with different types of paint for cool effects and making a tie-dye bandana!

May 26th-  Paint Belle from the live action Beauty and the Beast.  This is a princess filled art and craft day!

June 2nd-  K-2SO in Star Wars Rogue One: draw & make a robot collage with junk and cardboard.

June 9th-  Disney’s Voice:  paint characters from the movie and print papers to use on a collage koala.

June 16th-  Artist George Stubbs: animals were not generally considered to be appropriate subjects for serious art until the eighteenth century when Stubbs elevated the genre by the quality of his work. Learn about oil pastel, horse anatomy and have a visit from real live miniature ponies!

June 23rd-  Pirates of the Caribbean theme: draw a pirate or mermaid, collage a coral reef and participate in a treasure hunt on the grounds of The Art Park.  Tons of fun art and craft stations all morning long!

June 30th-  Animal Sculptures: make animals out of plaster strips, Model Magic and paper collage.  Collage artwork will go home in an acrylic frame.  This could get messy, dress in clothes that can get dirty!

July 7th-  Disney’s Moana: draw characters and collage Hawaiian Tiki totems.  Have fun using oil pastels!

July 14th-  Mosaic and Woodworking: students will learn how to safely use a scroll saw to cut out their name or favorite animal to mosaic.  Students will be closely supervised as they work with the tools.

July 21st-  Artist William Turner: considered the best landscape painter of Western paintings with his free atmospheric style.  He loved observing weather changes and once tied himself to a ship’s mast so he could sketch a storm.  If you like to paint with watercolor and India ink you will love this class!

July 28th-  Christmas in July:  Cool off with snowmen crafts, snowflake printmaking and tons of cute holiday craft stations to create at.  All new lessons and ornaments!

August 4th-  Mixed Media and Easy Weaving: these super cool projects yield beautiful results.  Students will also paper mache a bowl to paint and participate in shaving cream printmaking.

August 11th-  Cars III: draw your favorite characters, design and build your own car with Legos and compete in a race, next build a new model car out of junk art to take home.

August 18th-  Vermeer:  Learn about facial proportions as we make a reproduction of “The Girl with the Pearl Earring.”  The blue headband in the original oil painting was made with powdered lapis lazuli – learn about how painters mixed and made their paints by mixing your own powdered tempera paints!
