MONART DRAWING CLASSES

Want to improve your child’s fine motor skills, attention span and handwriting? Join us for Monart drawing classes at Martin! Students learn the basics of drawing while experimenting with new media including design quality markers, colored pencils, chalk pastel, watercolor and much more.

Ages: 1st-5th grade, Thursdays 3:45-4:45, located in room #301

 

FIRST SEMESTER: AFRICAN ANIMALS
PAINT A LION ON CANVAS!
If you like to learn about animals this is the class for you! Students will learn how to draw lots of interesting animals including a rhino, cheetah, giraffe, crocodile, hornbill toucan and many more! Learn how to use watercolor pencils, watercolor paint, tempera cakes, chalk pastel, design markers and acrylic paint.
Meets: Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 25, Nov. 1.

SECOND SEMESTER: HARRY POTTER AND FANTASTICAL BEASTS
PAINT HEDWIG ON CANVAS!
If you like the world of magic join us to draw, paint and make sculptures inspired by characters from Harry Potter! Projects include an assemblage character block sculpture, drawing and painting wizards, mythical creatures, animal pets, make super fun crafts from movie props such as a furry Monster Book, wand and flying snitch and customize your own patronus.

LEARNING WITH LEGOS

LEARN HOW TO MAKE STOP MOTION VIDEOS WITH LEGOS! MAKE “BLOCK HEADS” OF YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS
Lego Corp. has designed several advanced language arts, math and applied science sets and curriculums for classroom use. Many of these different sets will be used in each semester of Learning With Legos classes in addition to learning how to make stop motion videos with Legos and making “block head” characters. Students with different interests will all enjoy the variety of curriculum in each semester.

Meets Thursday, 3:45-4:45, Ages: 1st-5th gr., in Rm. #301

Lego Story Starters curriculum is specifically designed to support language arts. The goals are to enhance students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.  A book is read each week and students have the option to build scenes or modify the ending or characters.

Lego Simple Machines is pre-robotics sets which are perfect for any child that has an interest in science, technology, engineering, math, building and inventing or working with their hands. The problem solving, hands-on activities will help develop students’ understanding of basic physical and applied science and mechanical principals.

More To Math introduces a new math challenge with each lesson and students are urged to solve the problem using Lego bricks.  This curriculum is designed to encourage students to have a positive attitude towards solving math problems.

Learn to Learn Children learn best when they experience things first-hand and within a meaningful context.  This new Lego curriculum awakens student’s natural curiosity and challenges them to build something functional or meaningful.

Build To Express This unique Lego set enables students to build their way to better communication skills.  It creates a highly motivational, non-judgmental environment for students to express their thoughts and feelings.
